for the DAC 2004
After some emails with mr.Liudas and many visits to his website I decided to buy the Lessloss DAC 2004.So what's so special about the Lessloss DAC2004?.One of the reasons of taking the risk, buying a DAC without hearing it is in the way mr.Liudas and mr.Vilmantas explain about the difficulties of designing a digital to analog converter(see their website). Many things such as the battery supply, very short analog signal path (less then 2 inch) with discrete components!,choosing the DAC-chip not because of the high tech specs but on the 'ear'(sound quality) are the basics of building a DAC which is leaving the competition in the shadow.I almost forget the possibility to use the DAC2004 in the Master mode setting. The email I have send to mr.Liudas of LessLoss audio devices is clearly about this.
First of all my complements for the casework. It is very good crafted and looks more expensive then it costs .Also the cinch and XLR connectors are from good quality giving the DAC2004 a reliable impression. It also suites very good with the rest of my components (see picture). The clockcable and digital cable are also very good crafted with beautiful quality plugs and surprisingly no plastic outer jacket but a kind of cotton?.Visually the DAC2004 and cables are looking , if I had to choose a word for them It would be ‘classy’. The manual handling (standby and loading of the batteries) of the DAC is very easy and this is one off those things I can see you think a lot about choosing the best solutions . When listening with my older equipment I heard a click when the refrigerator was turning on.First I thought this was a problem from the tube poweramp but with the DAC2004 and the digital interlink the click was gone.
First of all I had to set my subwoofer to a lower level because your DAC has more bass output. But after listening a while it was not only more bass but also deeper with more articulation then I have experienced with the Proceed PDP3.On the other side of the frequency spectrum the frequency responce seems to be going higher and cleaner. The high frequencies are not only extended and clean but also remarkable detailed. There was more silence between the notes, perhaps one of the virtues of the battery power supply.Separation of the instruments is very good with a very width and deep soundstage. There are just layers of depth. The tonality and transparency is also very good, I would say the DAC2004 is on the neutral side.I have to say you didn’t said a word to much about your DAC2004 it is indeed a class of its own.
With kind regards,
none I can think of,or it would be the sleeples nights of listening to this wonderful product
Price/quality ratio is outstanding not only the musicality but also the built quality.Very good support :-)
