Bought a batch of Volex cords from Carlton-Bates and what I received is a Chinese made thang that has no resemblance to the original Volex shielded 14 gauge cord that has been so widely loved for being so good and soooooooooo cheap. The Chinese made cord has "Volex" right in the molding....so these are definitely made for them. The "older" Volex cords have lightweight brass looking male prongs whereas the Chinese cords have plated solid prongs. I have not listened yet...but I would bet anything they don't sound anywhere near as good. I will be doing a listening test soon and if they suck I would like to find a source for any of the older Volex cords still in stock somewhere.....I send them out with the amps I make and consider them a treasure for the money....Anyone know where I can get some of the older ones? I will report back on my listening tests when done.
