My DL-103R would have too low a resonance frequency if I used a massive tonearm. Here are the actual resonance test results from my DL-103R mounted in a SME V. The cartridge mass with mounting bolts is 10.23-grams and the tonearm effective mass is approximately 10.5-grams for a total effective mass of about 20.73-grams.
These tests were conducted using Tracks 8a and 8b on Side One of the Cardas Test record while allowing it slow to a stop. I've conducted a number of these tests and they are accurate and repeatable.
My particular cartridge has different compliance in the left-channel direction compared to the right-channel direction. Based on its resonance frequencies, my DL-103R exhibits 15-mm/N in the left channel and about 9.3-mm/N in the right channel. This is not necessarily unusual, but I think it might be somewhat undesirable.
Of the two other cartridge that I measured using this method, my AT-OC9ML/II had similar compliance in both channels, but an inmates AT33PTG had different compliance in both channels similar to my DL-103R.
Anyway, my particular DL-103R sounds wonderful and performs optimally in a medium mass tonearm.
Best regards,
John Elison
