I may have expressed the question incorrectly. I plan to keep the Trans. unit and am looking for a MM/phono with higher gain and better quality. A tough nut, I know. That's why I'm inquiring.

I couldn't reasonably expect any stage in my price range to put out > 72db, rather I'm looking for ~45db or so??
