As Mike says, at the time I visited with Lloyd he was using a pair of Merlin VSMs, and had been using them for about 6 years. But they were highly tweaked by Lloyd to a level well above the stock speaker. He'd completely rebuilt the bass equilization module with much higher quality components and wiring, and he'd done the same with the crossovers. He'd also replaced the spikes with his Valid points (a big improvement) and added his ultimate HDLs. By his estimate, he'd added about $5,000 worth of parts enhancements to the speaker. Of course, he did all of this because he was using this speaker for development purposes and he wanted to get them to the most revealing state possible.

Today Lloyd is using a pair of Kharma CRM 3.2's (that are still breaking in) and he's sold the tweaked-out Merlins.

But, keep things in context of the total system, folks. Lloyd's system is probably one of the most highly fine-tuned systems I've ever encountered. Like anything else in this hobby of ours, the true test is in the overall synergy of the total system and in the final fine tuning of that system. That's when the true magic begins to happen.
