Ok, so I did the Ki-Pearl and the CP-35 pre-amp. Now it was time to see why my old NS-9000 was not up to it. Looking at the PCB I saw what I had done to it ten years ago. There are four dual's. I had worked on it putting in a lot of 1000uf caps. Now I saw two jumpers wires for ground that go to the output jacks. I shortened these and moved them to the bottom side of the PCB. Then I added in four new 1000uf caps to each power pin of the second pair of IC's. The NS-9000 now leaped over the Pearl in sound.
So, what can I do with the Pearl? The had missed one cap on the first go around with it. A 220uf unit at the DAC. This I replaced with a 2200uf cap. Then, I added four .1 caps across the output caps. Now the two units are about even in sound. I'll give them a few more weeks to show me what they can do before I decide to do anything more. Good Luck, bobwire
