While the Scan Speak 8530K's are excellent drivers and proof positive that there usually is a direct correlation between how a driver measures and how it sounds, there are weaknesses - namely - pretty poor sensitivity by comparison to some other very good midbasses. The pro driver market is full of very high performance drivers that exhibit similarly low distortion/resonances but also provide excellent sensitivity. Another excellent driver is the SB15NRX which is similar to the Scan in overall sound but has better sensitivity and is much less expensive. Interestingly, it was designed by the same people who designed the Scan Speak drivers. The speaker driver market is too large and replete with excellent products to easily make blanket "best of" statements. SEAS, Peerless, Vifa, Scan Speak, SB Acoustics, Beyma, B&C, and 18 Sound all thankfully make world class products that are very close in overall performance. Even Lyeco has produced some excellent drivers that rival some of the world's best at a fraction of the cost.
