Good post and I agree, my only input would be that I did a lot of comparing line level vs speaker level input on the REL R505, the speaker level input was noticably better in my room and setup. That doesn't mean that's true for the velodyne or any other sub though.
I think (I didn't look it up) that my REL is a lot less expensive than the 2 subs you were comparing. I like the idea of room correction!
