Im hoping you are aware that the E140's relative phase is 180 out of phase

The black or negative terminal is positive on a JBL E140
The red or positive terminal is actually negative on a JBL E140

Note that sometime in the 90's JBL returned relative phase of their
loudpseakers and diaphragms to what the rest of the world is doing
and that is positive or red is positive

If you have the E140's hooked up positive to positive or red terminal
on the loudspeaker your problem is phase reversal on the woofer
:)
Put a 1.5volt battery across the terminals and you will see the woofer
sucks in if you put positive side of the battery on plus/red terminal on the woofer
If you return to a 12db per octave slope then you will want the
woofer out of phase with the compression driver so you dont
have a large dip at the xover point
