Mahler on multichannel BluRay or SACD can sound really good if done well. Most of the time, the surround channels are used for ambience. Some well-recorded Mahler multichannel materials include most of the Michael Tilson Thomas SFO series, the Gilbert Kaplan Mahler 2 (but not a great performance), the Chailly Mahler 2 and 8 on BluRay, the Chailly Mahler 3 on Decca SACD, the Abbado Mahler 9 on BluRay, and the Zander Mahler 3 and 6 on Telarc SACD.

Even the 40+ year old Mahler 4 and Das Lied von der Erde of Reiner are improved by the 3-channel reproduction on SACD.
