Thanks for the information. I remember purchasing the unit within a 6-month window of January 1980, so that is consistent with your numbers. I am bit confused about the semiconductors. I thought that the 1040 was more expensive than the 1020 and that the numbering had something to do with cost, power and features. How did this work? Is there a web site with information on these receivers?

My sense also is that at some point Yamaha's receivers diminished some in quality.
