The 8th quartet was arranged by R. Barshai as op. 110a for chamber orch.
The Jewish theme from the second piano trio appears in the 8th quartet.
The four note motive which is shostakovich's signature DSCH appears altogether in 5 of his compositions and makes an appearance in each of the movements of the 8th quartet.It was supposed to have been his epitaph,which may account for all the "signatures."
