Certainly the pop cds are compressed and offer similar dynamic range to lp, but the cd standard is what I address. I appreciate your non-argumentative tone. With a significant portiion of those who post here, the dynamic range of cd is an issue, since they are not listening to the backdoor boys or N'stink or some such. I am a supporter of cds, their primary problem is in the playback systems and the quality of pop masters. Good to hear an set user on this forum, the tonal qulity of sets is something I wish my SS Acurus A100 could match. I like the ability to reach performance levels, since I have performed my entire life, and like to hear the different sections of an orchestra, the different pieces of a band, and such things, which are enhanced by levels similar to those in a performance enviornment.
