Would placing Celestion SL600's less than a foot from rear wall negate the spkrs.' strengths?

Trying to help a friend (classical musician) find a small speaker for $1,000 or less that'll work well sitting on a cabinet close to rear wall. There's a pair of SL600's available. I remember hearing those spkrs. years ago and liking them a lot, but dunno if they'd work so close to back wall.

BTW - he's gonna be using an old NAD 2200pe amp (100 wpc).
