I checked the new reissue of this out of the library today and you are correct. Excellent sound compared to what I remember from the LP. I don't like this album as well as the second album, yet I found myself mesmerized by details in the music I'd never heard before. And, there is a goosebump factor here for those who are afflicted with that malady- try Long Black Veil. Of course, The Weight and Chest Fever are the biggies, at least IMHO.

The second, "brown", album is definitely on my to buy list! Thanks for the post.

Also I agree with your take on the alternates. Listened to Key to the Highway, that great old Bill Broonzy standard. Let's just say Little Walter still owns this one.
