As mentioned below in a previous thread, the driving force behind "music lovers" or "audiophiles" presumably is that music stimulates what is referred to as the dopamine reward pathway, the end target of which is a structure called the nucleus accumbens. This same pathway is stimulated by anything from which we derive pleasure.
The link below is a report that shows decreased activation in the nucleus accumbens in individuals suffering from musical anhedonia (individuals unable to derive pleasure from listening to music).
