Re: Perpetual Techonologies P3A and power supply sensitivity

Maybe too late for you or anybody to read this...
I agree with your description of symptoms. In my case, when in I2S direct mode, those humm/buzz or pitch occurs whenever I move the units even slightly. Even the distance of the two affects a lot. The best result for the moment is setting them vertically side by side with no space between (attach them). My units are BEHIND the CD transport. There is no audible interference.
As to balanced connection, I did the same experiment with DH Labs D-110 1/2M. The sound is only slightly better than coax digital, and absolutely no noise. And I found that even in I2S connection, if you disengage direct mode (thus, upsampling is done by P-3A), there is no noise or interference. So, I guess the culprit is P-1A's upsamling module. But the bottomline is I2S direct mode sounds much better, so I still use I2S direct, and as long as you are careful about the positioning of the two, that should be all right.
Also, I would like to ask people NOT to give up on these. It may be true that there are some defective untis (that's only because of the sub-contractor in CA, I guess), but when you have the perfect unit, the combo is very good. I bought my P-3A from Dan W so that Dan would make sure the unit is OK. I bought P-1A form underwoodwally@aol.com who is the exclusive refurbrish dealer because you can get it cheaper with assurance that the unit is 100% tested and certified.
Hope this helps those who are having trouble, or thinking of getting one. AV123.com also now offers "overnight free shipping", so you can try them immediately and you can return it within 30 days. So your downside is only your return shipping.

Needless to say, I am not in anyway affiliated with PT or Dan W or anyone. I am just a user who happend to have a little experience in those troubles and is currently very happy with the products.

BTW, can someone recommend any good I2S cable? I tried Audio Magic Mystic, but the connector is bad (too sensitive and unsecure) and returned it.
