REVIEW LESSLOSS DYNAMIC FILTERING POWER CABLE

Posted by WMS on May 20, 2008 at 14:06:17:

My tastes in music range from classical to pop vocals to jazz. Recordings I used for evaluation included Diana Krall’s Greatest Hits, Nora Jone's "Not to Late" and Michael Buble's "Call Me Irresponsible".

I received the Lessloss dynamic filtering power at the special promotional price of $350 direct from the manufacturer in early May. Fit & finish of the power cord is excellent and it is terminated with high quality Oyaide P079 connectors which retail alone in the neighborhood of $180 for the pair.

After burning the power cord in for 100 hours using an adaptor that allows me to hook up the cord to a twelve inch oscillating fan I initially installed the Lessloss power cord on my CD player in place of my usual ZU BOK power cord. As far as as transparency, dynamics, bass & sound staging is concerned the Lessloss was equal to my ZU BOK power cord. Where the Lessloss outperformed the ZU was in smoothness and the overall fleshing out of instruments and voices (I guess the best way to describe it was organic sounding).

After listening to the Lessloss for two days on my CD player I installed it on my Eastern Electric Minimax power amp to replace my MAC sound pipes HC cord with oyaide 029 connectors. In this application the Lessloss really shined. The improvement in smoothness and fleshing out of instruments and voices heard on the CD player now extended to all sources: CD player, turntable, and tuner).

Some reviews indicate that if the Lessloss does have a minor shortcoming it is slightly rolled off on the highs. In my application I didn't notice this. The Green Mountain Europas tend to be slightly hot in the high end so a little roll off would be an asset.

From my experience listening to power cords up to $1500, although I have never spent more than around $600 purchasing a power cord the Lessloss will more than hold its own with the competition up to this price level and in some cases beyond.

In the sub $250 power cord price range I have found the DH labs Power plus, ZU Bok, & MAC Sound pipes HC to be standout products.

I have found Virtual dynamics power cords for the most part to be good sounding but on the downside (1) they use inexpensive connectors,(2) are very stiff & inflexible, and (3) offer confusing promotions from giving away their Power 3 cords to new customers to so called factory pricing: so how do you know if the price you pay is the real deal and when you sell it how does the prospective customer know what is a fair price to pay?

But if one can extend their budget to whatever Lessloss is charging this week for the Dynamic Filtering Power cord (since I bought mine it went from $350 up to $590 and I see it is now down to $450) you will get a bargain on a world class flexible power cord constructed with high quality parts that should work well with all of your components.
