Wanna try a killer DIY mat?

SPOTMAT

I really rate the Ringmat XLR and use one on my LP12, but found I couldn't really justify paying another Â£50.00 for my other decks so have been looking for alternative. Had a brainwave today whilst lateral thinking about it.

I paint watercolours so have plenty of watercolour paper about so I made this one with a 9.75 inch circle of Daler Langton 140lb acid free paper, I then marked out two inner circles at 2.5 & 4 inches and radii every 30 degrees for outer circle and 45 degrees for inner circle. At the intersections of these I stuck .75 inch circular self adhesive felt pads (eight inch thick) - these are the ones sold to put under furnitutre legs etc. I did try sticking them on other side as well in between those on first side but it made mat too thick.

What's it sound like? Well I can't tell much if any difference between it and my Ringmat - maybe the Ringmat is a bit brighter or maybe my Spotmat is more neutral.

Cost? Maybe Â£1.00 UKP ($1.50 USD) and an hour of my time.
