I'll keep this short and sweet and pardon the spelling because I really want to go to sleep.
Why in heavens name would we charge this customer $240.00 for a vaccuum motor and gaskets when all he had to do was send it to VPI and it would have been fixed for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is nothing wrong with the motor this time, there was nothing wrong with the motor last time, WTF is this customer doing with this machine? We have never had a Typhoon motor fail, ever, yet he has two that failed and conveniently never sent the old one back so we could inspect it or the machine to see what he was doing to it.
Better yet he purchases a new motor from Grainger without having any idea what we do to the motor to make it fit and work properly. This is not a 16.5 where the motor slips in, but you will find that out. BTW, the moment that motor enters the Typhoon it will never be touched again by any VPI personnel, neither will VPI be responsible for you electrocuting yourself.
1- If a customer breaks one of our products or the product malfunctions for any reason and they send it back we usually fix it no charge or just the shipping charge if it is way out of warrantee.
2- If you rip the connectors off a tonearm and you send it back we resolder and make it like new for $20.00. If the cat rips the wires off the top of an arm we replace the entire wiring harness for $60.00.
3- If a cleaning machine doesn't work under warrantee we fix or replace it free. We usually send spare cleaning tubes to pay for the customers shipping. Many customers forget to seal the drain tube in the rear and water is sucked into the vacuum and soaks the machine (totally harmless on a Typhoon BTW) that is customer error and is easily repaired.
4- We just fixed a cutomers HR-X motor assembly that was way out of warrantee no charge, replaced the motor and flywheel and made it like new. PL is a nice customer, good things happen to nice people.
I could go on and on about what we do to help the customers who call or send e-mails and ask for help but I will chaulk this up to "You can't please everyone all the time" and get some rest.
