This is one of those really rare tangential tonearms that uses a pivoting mechanism without any linear motion bearing or air bearing. Very clever! It is in line with the Thales Original and Simplicity in modern tonearms. The also resembles, of course, the classic Garrard Zero 100. Very clever mechanism and I would like to learn more about arm, who and when was this made. Looking at the bearing housing, it definitely looks like a Japanese arm, such as the arm in the Pioneer PL-570 minus bent armwand and offset angle. Perhaps this is an Japanese arm from the 70's or someone modified it from a Japanese arm.

It has its historical precedence or parallel in using string to pivot the headshell in a design patented by Andrew M. Wolff in 1985.
