First, thanks to Galen Carol Audio for a great price and prompt shipping.
After setting the gain to 60 dB and loading to 100 Ohms via DIP switch banks on the back panel, I hooked up the Phonomena II to my restored Thorens TD-150 with Uwe wood body Denon DL-103 and put Linda Ronstadt's Heart Like a Wheel LP (Cisco re-issue).
At first blush two facts stood out. First, this is a serious preamp, detailed, layered, great bass, open on top and dynamic. Secondly, Jeeze that blue LED is bright!!! I'm going to have to cover that puppy at night or I'll never get any sleep. Or maybe a blindfold???
Now, I've been told the Phonomena is a chameleon and will turn on me at some point during the first 50-100 hours and sound like doggy-doo. We shall see. But this preamp is certainly several steps up from the budget SS pres I've been playing with recently (Musical Fidelity V-LPS and Cambridge 640P). I'll give a more complete report rater.PS Audio integrated, right, Phonomena II, left, with spotlight LED
