The maximum output from your cartridge depends on the LPs you select. Average records will produce peaks that exceed the reference by 12 to 15-dB. Audiophile recordings can reach 20-dB or even slightly higher. Normally, if you consider a maximum output that is 10-times the cartridge's rated output, you will be in good shape for 99.9% of all LPs.

Ten-times is 20-dB.
