Both models are electronically identical. I've owned both. The reason I have the Deluxe model(9 years now) was because the black model sort of fell apart. The front pot fell off. Then both sets of Rca jacks came loose and fell off.
The deluxe is much better housed and the RCAs are firmly attached. It is built for both MM and MC cartridges. I've modded it a few years back and have completed replaced all the major capacitors last month. I'm quite happy with it. I bought it new for $1295.
I've been using a separate SUT the entire time I've owned the unit. The internal one isn't that good.
