I found that the Mat One had little effect on the balance of my LP12. I put it on and made sure it was level. My platter is still a good distance away from the plinth.
Perhaps your platter is quite close to the plinth before adding the mat. If so, you will probably have to readjust your springs so the platter is higher as a starting point. I am no expert on setting up the LP12 so there may be others out there who can give you much better advice.
Until I used the Mat One, I was never satisfied with the depth of bass I was getting from the Lp12 (Lingo, Trampoline, Cirkus, Ekos, Akiva). After installing the Mat One, I am really enjoying full orchestral recordings much more.
