Vinyl Asylum Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ. |

You wanna Technics with PLENTY of torque and a quick start up that just keeps getting quicker? One that will knock your enthusiastic turntable and vinyl collecting friends' socks off??? Well, look no further my VA compadres!
Came across this video on YouTube---I wonder what would've happened had that record somehow spun loose---probably would have made for a great skeet thrower, lol.
The platter spins so fast that it begins to give the optical illusion(looking at the record label) the record is spinning backwards(to my eyes,anyways---could be the video 'frames per second' visual illusion at play with my brain)! Also, curious to hear what the record would have sounded like had he lowered the stylus on it...It says 5000 RPM , but would be interesting to know the actual speed ...Listen carefully to the increasing sound of the motor whirring as it spins the platter totally out of control.
I've heard of turntable speed problems and fluctuations that can occur when the electronics(circuits, chips, and caps, etc.) start to give out(seen a few in the past) but have NEVER come across anything like this!
Btw, I've got the SL Q303(a very reliable deck all these years,so far)---which is the model up from this SL Q202----Jeez, what to look forward to when it's speed quartz stability finally goes---The magnet is circular and almost flat on these as opposed to the thicker, longer, and larger ones used for the the 1200 MK2(can only imagine what a 1200 with the bigger motor-magnet with this kind of speed problem would do!)...
Cheers,
Matt
