Thorens TD Tweak Question

In my continuing TD 160 tweaking saga I can't seem to figure the two "set" screws that are running through the wood blocks on the sides of the underside. On the analogue department site it looks like they are NOT connecting with the sub chassis. Are they supposed to? If they don't I seem to get side to side play with the sub chassis. But if I connect them it kills the "bounce" that I am supposed to shoot for.

Does anyone have the smarts on this? Thanks.
