I urge you to review the calculations. The shear strength of the material is the limiting factor no matter what surface finish you achieve.
If you exceed the maximal stress the material will either crack or deform by plastic flow. Assuming you avoid the first, the second will mould the thrust plate to the contact ball and your advantage will be lost.Mark Kelly
