I have had both. A current version Gyro SE with a tecnoarm A and presently I have a Scoutmaster with a JMW 9 sig.
The Gyro does have an edge in flow but to me it is slight and I am a drummer that went to Berklee. Both really have excellent sonics when setup well. Which is were the rub lies with me with the Gyro. To me its suspension was very fiddly, I ended it playing with it trying to tweak it to get the last iota of performance out of the table. Ok so maybe I am slightly anal and OCDish but a Gyro with a poorly setup suspension does not sound good at all while one set up well can sound pretty amazing. To me getting it setup really well was, well, really frustrating and time consuming.
The VPI while also having some setup issues (azimuth) is a much less fiddly table. BTW the sig. JMW 9 is a big step up from the std 9 and is the way to go. YMMV
