Interesting new phono stage....

Stuck away at the base of African continent is a little-known audio equipment manufacturer that quietly goes about its business of producing high-quality, but reasonably priced hybrid audio equipment.

With a product range that includes 3 integrated amplifiers, 2 line stage pre-amps and 2 power amps, Valve Audio have now released a new modular hybrid phono stage named "Whisper".

As can be seen from the image above, the unit offers front-panel selection for cartridge loading in a full-sized and substantial case.

The rear view shows quite clearly the dual-mono design and (in this case) provision for 2 sets of front-panel selectable inputs - permitting the use of either two tonearms on a single turntable or two separate turntables.

The unit can be ordered with one or two inputs and can also be field-upgraded.

Also provided are both balanced and single-ended inputs/outputs and the power supply is neatly housed in its own separate isolated structure, joined to the gain/equalisation section by the robust front panel and cable channeling.

I had the privilege of hearing this device at a recent local audio expo where the system comprised the following:

- Transrotor ZET-3 turntable (I don't recall the arm/cartridge)
- Valve Audio "Whisper" single stereo input stage
- Valve Audio Genesis Pre/Pwr
- Martin Logan Vantage

For me this was best-sounding system on show.
