If you know the effective length and you also know the two alignment null-points, you can employ the following equations to determine the proper mounting distance along with a few other critical parameters.
The thing to remember is that for a specific effective length and two specific null-point, there is only one mounting distance that will work, period. There is not a range; there is only one unique mounting distance.
