Early times yet, but after having very recently received my Rhino box, count me among those disappointed with the need for digital remastering of the long-awaited Doors vinyl box. The new set does extract more detail, but it seems to offer fairly little in improved dynamic range or more natural tonality, especially with the drums, which can't seem to fully make it out of the can.
I recall panning the earlier DCC series (even to the point of lamenting that MFSL hadn't done them all), but that was both unfairly premature and it failed to fully consider the limitations of the original recordings. Also, my system at that time tended to favor a more rounded edge on most late 60's/early 70's-era recordings.
I was expecting great things from this set, especially after first reading the enclosed comments from Botnik and Holzman, but the most astonishing thing that so far has jumped out at me while making some comparisons is how close even the DCC CD's come to these LP's. I have too many LP versions of these albums to have made thorough comparisons among those, but Steve Hoffman did a really great job with the CDs of LA Woman and Strange Days, and the Strange Days LP.
It would be interesting to learn which of the original masters were still in good enough condition to have produced all-analog reissues, but I'm still very happy this project was undertaken. DSD would have been a definite plus for those favoring that method and hoping for an SACD series, but the timing of the preservation in this instance is likely more important than the method.
