XLR: 1=minus, 2=plus, 3=ground.
Forget about 2 to grid. That bypasses the trafo.
5 on trafo could be screen. Not sure about the rest.
Could you draw a diagram of the trafo in Paint? Trafos usually have the taps grouped, making it easier to deduce.
(If you use tonearm cable with a separate ground lead, you could try lift the ground. But first get the thing working.)
