I'm an electronics technician. I have no excuse when I fry something.So.... twice in the past year I've cooked something in a similar manner:
1. I got an LCD monitor free and had repaired it. Working great. While I was swiveling it for a better look (with the back still off) I accidentally touched the power supply with a loose wire and BZZT! It went out to the curb after I stomped around the house beating myself up for an hour.
2. I got an AMC 3020 amp that needed adjusting. It's a real pain the ass setting the bias current on these. I had it just about right when my test lead touched something and BZZT! Pretty sparks, smoke and fried output transistors. I got it working again, but I'm getting a little shakier with age.
I purchased some clip-on leads for home so I don't have to keep my hands in things to take measurements. :)
