I bought the same unit from EPAY. I just velcroed mine to a tripod. Used a rubber band to hold down the button. You are correct If you have a shinny platter it will not work. What I did: I had a couple of 3/4" plywood discs made with a hole cutter, glued them together spray painted flat black, enlarged the center hole, and glued on the reflective strip. This goes over the spindel. Works very well.
