If you plan to venture into the guts of electronics, that is.

When I worked for a defense contractor long ago, we were forced to attend "Static Awareness" classes twice a year if I recall correctly.

A bit more was at stake than a phono stage - some poor guy's F-15 might become an expensive plow if we caused any latent defects from static.
