How did you reach the conclusion on the stylus being ready for replacement?

I have had my Kontra B for a number of years now, but since I alternate between the small silver discs and the ticky and poppy larger ones I can't even begin to figure out how many hours I have on the stylus.

BTW I find it indecent that cartridge manufacturers do not offer re-tipping at a decent price. I still think that carts with user replaceable styli make more sense and that it is too bad that Shure has ceased production of their top model because they could not secure a manufacturer for the beryllium cantilever.
