Never used Soundsmith, but my experience with VdH was very good.

VdH is a bit more expensive than SS. I went thru Stanalog - the U.S. importer at the time - and got my cart. in 6 weeks as per what I was initially told. VdH did a great job affixing new *boron* cant. (which SS doesn't offer) & VdH stylus to my AT ML170. Sounded better than ever. I'm gonna send it to them again.
