Having been very impressed with the recent superlative quality of New West vinyl, great copies of REM 'Accelerate' and Wilco 'Blue Sky Blue', I had high hopes for Neil Young's 'Chrome Dreams 2'. It arrived yesterday and the pressing quality is horrible. There is a swishing, crackly sound right through Sides 1, 3 and 4. Side 2 seems o.k. Isn't this an RTI pressing???
At €35, this has to go back and I am not even sure if I want to risk a second copy. I saw one post from inmate Ozzy here who appears to have had similar problems with his copy although others seems to have got decent copies. Has there been a problem with this Vinyl Release on a large scale or is my copy just a 'rogue' copy? Nothing improves it, Vinylzyme, Super Vinyl Wash etc.
To make matters worse, my copy of U2 'The Joshua Tree' has a similar problem but that is from Universal here in Europe but I would have expected better given that it is a 2LP and a special anniversary issue. The lousy inner sleeves in which the LPs are housed gave the game away. Has anybody had problems with this one?
At least I got a few good ones, thank you Speakers Corner, Pure Pleasure and Concorde (John Fogerty), New West. Sometimes, this hobby is really frustrating.
