The bass "increase" you're hearing is most likely due to leading edge smearing and/or bloated low frequency sustain due to resonant energy storage. If my experience with this slab of granite under four different turntables (Michell, Technics, Rega, and Avid) is any indication, you might be trading bass quality for the appearance of an increase in bass quantity.
Looks very nice though.
