Hooked On Vinyl, officially, Since 1966 Here...

I am 49, set to turn 50 on January 31st, of this month! I have been an avid album collector / fan since 1966, I was proudly able to purchase the first MONKEES album, then "More Of The Monkees" a year later (1967) on Colgems Records. I still own those very albums!

My Mom and especially my Dad, who was a NE Ohio steelworker and avid LP / Audiophile enthuiasist as I grew up in the 60s. Our home always had some type of LP playing on the "Cadillac of Console Stereos", so popular in the 60s. Hence, I was hooked, and many LPs I buy now where albums I remember hearing as a kid, and if I don't remember the actual music, I remember seeing the album cover in my Dad's collection.

"Moon River" by Andy Williams, 1962 on Columbia Records, an example.
All of TOM JONES' albums on the Parrot label. On and On...

I can remember Christmas parties in the 60s, where my parents would host a party. Their friends would arrive, and those friends would bring their own favorite albums to play and enjoy at the party. of course I had to hit the sack and not be up with the "grown-ups" but vinyl ruled, they grew up in the 50s where again, VINYL LPs and 45s were everywhere.

So that's a bit of my background. Now that my kids are grown, I find myself enjoying albums all over again, discovering new artists and genres, and even listening to classical music which is readily available at modest prices. Jazz music too, Folk, and oddball stuff in-between! Vinyl LPs have no limits, it's a wide-open format.

Vinyl also, has a leisure time where I am NEVER bored also, or "don't have anything to do" as I hear from some people my age and older.
