According to Jensen, the JT-44K-DX is designed to be connected directly to a 47k-ohm phono preamp with only a series RC termination across the secondary as shown in the following schematic. Jensen says that for a 40-ohm cartridge the termination should be 6.04k-ohms in series with 130-pF. Have you tried this kind of termination? It seems like it would be weighted toward the high frequencies because of the series capacitor.
