I once tried the nude Denon(with a ceramic top plate glued to the top of the Denon). The sound was much like "modern" cartridge:more transparence, clearer, but at the same time a bit brighter and thinner in tone.More accurate?Yes,maybe. But to me some of the magic was gone. Then I tried various wood bodies.I was completely surprised:the wood body retained the full sound of the original and helped to get better resolution as well as a more natural smoother sound with improved dynamics. That's the way I hear it.It seems to be exactly as Pat O'Mally described it"the wood gives a sympathetic resonance enhancing the depth of tone".
