I paid $339 new. It has to be the biggest audio bargain I have ever seen.
Of course I examined the interior and took notes for eventual upgrades. I also changed out the Shuguang (excellent by the way) 12AX7s for NOS Sylvania 5751s I had on hand. I removed the tube shields as they are not necessary and contribute to very short tube life. I can get by with 30% less gain also. Too much means no volume control range using the tube line output.
Very good to excellent build quality. High/low voltage R-core transformer, plated through double sided glass epoxy boards, metal film resistors and what are apparently Asian film capacitors of unknown dielectric. Six OP37 low noise op amps in sockets. Very extensive heavy plate shielding. Heavy gage steel chassis and cover. Aprox. 5 mm thick aluminum faceplate.
Hard to find fault with any aspect of the 9's build quality. Can't see why it would not sound good.
I do not know the Primare but I'm sure it's excellent.
