I'll second the Shindo recommendation

I'm a big Shindo fan and would whole-heartedly recommend a Shindo phonostage. The sound is very balanced, natural, dynamic, and gets the tone right. As for me, I use a Shindo Vosne-Romanee which is $16K.

Ken Shindo can make you a stand alone phonostage if you don't want a full function preamp. This is not a standard product but would be a custom job. I believe it runs somewhere between $6-8K.
