FWIW, there were 2 different sets of lacquers cut for both sides of the mono Beatles For Sale LP -- -3N & -4N. Original pressings can be found with any combination of the 2 matrix numbers. I'm pretty sure there was only one 60s UK pressing of BFS in mono -- although it was a big seller initially, it had perhaps the quickest shelf life of any Beatles release.

The only other mono analog UK pressing of BFS was for the 1982 UK mono reissues and, IIRC, stampers made from the same lacquers as the 60s pressing were used for this release as well (in fact, much of the '82 mono sreies was pressed from original lacquers/stampers -- and many UK stereo pressings well into the 70s used original 60s lacquers/stampers).

IMO, the mono mix of BFS is their least enjoyable mono mix. The stereo mix is great.

Also, the 1st mono pressing and the 4th mono pressings of Please Please Me were pressed just a few weeks apart and were pressed from the same lacquers (-1N/-1N). Relatively few LPs were pressed (maybe 15,000?) were pressed in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd pressings combined, so the metal parts certainly weren't worn out at that point. Now it's possible that one could be hearing pressing variations -- they do exist. Or an LP may have been cut from a worn out mother/stamper. But I don't think it has much to do with the label.

I have a 1st, 3rd and 4th pressing of PPM. They sound basically the same to me.
