I had this happen with someone who supposedly wanted to buy my art work. Didn't want to be rude or ignore the purchase because I have sold art to people out-of-state before. The crooks sent a very authentic-looking money order. I checked with TravelersExpress first. If you try to deposit a fraudulent check or MO, you can be implicated.
Wrote the fellow an email to say all I received was a fake MO and I never heard back.
