Wow, this will be very interesting and fun as well, I am sure. I know you guys are looking to provide answers to the rest of us audio nuts.I would like to add, in regards to recording, I have never listened to the speakers while I recorded a cassette or onto CD from vinyl. I just did not want to add the feedback from the speakers into the recording chain, I know it may sound anal, but that is how I record. I can only imagine doing this to match levels, however, not for professional recordings, hence isolation booths for singers and musicians.
I know you guys are going to have some great fun and with the double malt more so, I would also like to add, from my perspective that your tests should include direct from LP masters to CD, then compare those to mass produced CD's of the same title and see how the ripped vinyl to CD sounds to the mass market CD and how the vinyl ranks against the mass market CD to the ripped CD from vinyl. From my experience, the ripped vinyl CD sounds better then the mass market CD, but not as good as the vinyl, close, but not quite.
