Well check this out!
Hello,Thank you for your email and in answer to your questions.
1. 3009 SII Improved (fixed headshell) Effective mass 6.50grams
2. 3009 S2 (detachable headshell) Effective mass 9.50 grams.
3. 3009 9†(non improved version) Effective mass 12.50 grams.
We hope this helps.

SME LIMITED.
So SME themselves seem to contradict their own brochure, but I guess that's the definitive answer.
With regard to the Thorens / Gyro comparison I think it's difficult to say that the Thorens is "better". The Gyro, set up as mine was, is more detailed and has a sharper soudstage but somehow you finish up actively peering into the mix for details and mentally checking everything to see how good it sounds but with the Thorens you just seem to just sit back, forget the HI-FI and enjoy the music which, in my book, must make it more "right". I will definately look into some of your cartridge recommendations and see if I can add some detail and soundstage without losing that "rightness".
Anyway, getting back to the arm / cartridge issue, if the series II imp (fixed) does have an effective mass of 6.5gms does this mean I'm looking for an even higher compliance figure of say 15 - 18? What's the equation you use to work out the resonance figure?
Cheers.
