I think the main different is in the interface. An LCD with a DVI interface can be very good. I used to get migraines but those stopped once I changed from a CRT to a DVI LCD. An LCD that uses an analog (VGA) interface can have the negatives of both the LCD and the CRT. That said, some of the latest LCDs using a VGA interface seem pretty good. I had to fight to get our programmer to go from a 21" 1600 x 1200 CRT to a 20" LCD. I did it because it was the last CRT in the place. After a few days she said she wished the change had been made a couple of years ago.I agree with the comments that many LCDs don't wokr well for photo and video work. If you are working mainly with text, go for it.
